3.) Summary:

Jake is a junior high school student who is a prime example of stress amongst students. He engaged in conferences, sports, and took advanced placement classes; and on top of all this he never really failed even though it was one of his biggest fears. One day Jake was overwhelmed and was consumed by his fears that he trapped himself in his room and never verbalized his thoughts. His parents recommended him a therapist who prescribed Jake pills, which made him act out in a bad way. There was evidence of him trying to commit suicide as a result of the imbalance of emotion; directly correlated to not taking the medication being prescribed.

6.) Quotes:

1.) "Jake was right — his parents didn’t understand. Jake didn’t really understand, either. But he also wasn’t good at verbalizing what he thought he knew: that going to school suddenly felt impossible, that people were undoubtedly judging him, that nothing he did felt good enough. “All of a sudden I couldn’t do anything,” he said. “I was so afraid.”

2.) "An increase in dosage made Jake “much more excited, acting strangely and almost manic,” his father wrote in a journal in the fall of 2015. A few weeks later, Jake locked himself in a bathroom at home and tried to drown himself in the bathtub."

3.) "The more school he missed, the more anxious he felt about missing school. And the more anxious he felt, the more hopeless and depressed he became."

7.) Value:

Since the doctor medicalized Jake's stress I can use this as a prime example of stress being taken to another level when it shouldn't be; instead identifying the factors causing the stress, (or the stressors) and treating those social issues would be a better approach to bettering a person's anxiety.
